In college admissions, essays play a very important role. But you can’t learn writing skill overnight. Whether or not you are a born writer, you need to spend a lot of time in writing to become a good writer. With this said, I’d like to talk about my personal experience in writing.
11 years ago, I started my blog. I had big passion about photography, so naturally I wanted to share my photography experience with as many people as possible.

At first, I stared at my laptop for hours for doing nothing. In fact, this is not true. I wrote a sentence or two, then deleted them all. I repeated this for a few times and gave up on writing for days. How could this be possible? There are so much thing to tell when it comes to photography topic; yet I couldn’t write my thoughts. Then it occurred to me that speaking is one thing and writing is a totally different thing.
Back then, I thought writing should be easier for me over time if I write more blog postings but it didn’t get any easier. So I started reading other people’s blog to figure out secret recipes for good writing. Then I realized that attractive blogs are mostly about stories out of personal experience as opposed to stating information. The latter type of blogs are often very boring.
Learn from the best
I think this is not entirely true. You must learn from the bad. Analyzing good thing is hard but criticizing bad writing is rather easy. Even if you are not a good writer, you notice that bad writing is not appealing to you. This is why Admission Masters give you both examples. I mean both good and bad essay examples.

Inspiration
When you are inspired, storied can be told from your heart not from your brain. Dr. Wayne Dyer who were often introduced as father of motivation by Oprah Winfrey in her show, inspired me in many ways from his speech and books. Like me, if you can find a mentor from books, you could improve your writing skill over time through good examples. But at the same time, I advise you to read a lot of personal blogs that find out why some blogs are more appealing to you while others are not. In other words, learn from the bad also helps.

Writing skill can’t be earned within short period of time. But it also can’t be earned by simply just spending more time. If you can’t develop good writing skill for a college admission essay on your own, it’s best to find a professional help before it’s too late!
